Visit to Houston - Early CNY

When we were down in Houston for my father’s back surgery, we arranged to have dinner with our travel mate Lisa, her daughter Angelina and her family. We were going to go to their restaurant, but then her father (who went on the trip to China with us) told her that he wanted us all to go to an authentic Chinese restaurant in Houston’s Chinatown. He invited us all to meet them for an early Chinese New Year Celebration. They had family visiting from China and we brought along my sisters Tahni and Bayli. Plus my cousin Jen and her roommate Shawnaka.

The table was the biggest round table I have ever seen! The lazy Susan in the middle was almost as big as our dining room table. We started with peanuts and candied walnuts and then came the appetizers which included Peking Duck – that’s right, it was one of the appetizers! It was wonderful and reminded me so much of China. From there we had 2 kinds of chicken, crab, a special Chinese fish and Walnut Shrimp. There was soup and rice and slices of oranges at the end. I am sure I am forgetting one of the items, but it was all fantastic!!

It was so nice to see Lisa and her family again. I hope that we will always have a chance to see them when we go down there so that the girls will grow up getting to know each other.  Thank you to Lisa and her family for including us in the big dinner celebration.

Yesterday marked us being a family of 3 for 18 months. The weather was gorgeous for this time of year so we headed for the zoo.  Nadia’s favorite part is the monkeys so we started there and worked our way around. I love the Cheetahs and all 3 were out today which was very cool.  Most of the animals were moving around enjoying the weather too and Nadia liked getting to see them all in motion. Each time we moved on to a new animal she would say, “Bye guys!”  We had lunch at the zoo and then headed home.

We love having Nadia as a part of our lives. It seems like this year and a half has just flown by and God has blessed us so much!
