Thankful Thursday

I am thankful for our access to food in America. Before you let the doom and gloom of the news get you down, take a look at these photos from around the world and see what the average family lives on and compare it to your life.

I know that I am blessed. Not just that I have plenty of food, but that the words “What do I feel like eating today?” can even come out of my mouth. Most of the world (especially children) would love to have all the choices we have. Here is one little statistic for you – 80% of the world is only able to eat 2 meals a day or less. (And I know they aren’t the meals I feed my family)

The following photos were taken by one photographer who traveled all over the world to put this together. The families gathered together all the food their household eats in a week. His name is Peter Menzel. All amounts converted to US dollar equivalents.

America:   $341.98 average per week.

Chad, Africa $1.23 average a week.

Shingkhey Village, Butan  $5.03 average per week. (that’s for a family of 12!!!)

Thankful Thursday

– I am thankful for our playgroup and all the wonderful people I have gotten to know better through it. And you can’t beat how cute the kids are 🙂

– I am thankful for the wonderful weather we are having here in Texas. Sorry for my friends up in the tundra!

Today we went to have a picnic and playtime on the lawn behind the Kimball art museum. We entertained ourselves by trying to get a photo of all the kids. Notice how completely outnumbered the girls are.

Bunny Rescue

Last Friday Mike was using the weed wacker by the trees when I saw some baby bunnies running from the base of one of our trees. I quickly said, “Bunnies, bunnies” before he killed one. Three medium sized ones hopped away to the fence and I saw at least one more in the hole by the tree. It was getting dark at the point so we decided to check back the next day and remove the others.

For you long time readers you know our tree saga of last year and about the death of the first three. There is no way we are going to lose a tree to a bunny family no matter how cute they are! So we went back out to check and found that the momma and 3 older ones weren’t around, but the 2 little babies were. I got an extra plastic shoe box and we prepared to move them. Here they are nestled down where they dug out a home next to the tree trunk.

Here they are after Mike pulled them out and they were trying to get back into the hole.

And here they are in their makeshift home. I hope they don’t die, but if their momma doesn’t come back they will starve to death since they are so little.

$.58

At Office Depot this week I got all of this stuff for $.58!!! They mailed out a $25 off $25 coupon valid on anything except HP ink and technology items. I know all of this is worth more than $25, but they are having a killer clearance sale and that’s how I stretched it so far. They are having a deal where you buy the easy open binder and get a free box of page protectors, the glue sticks were $.01 a package and the markers were $.44 a package.

At the end the cashier turned to the people behind me and said, “Now this lady is a smart shopper.” I just beamed with delight because it was a coupon deal and I am such a nerd who loves office supplies.
