Amelie’s 5th Birthday!

Amelie's 5th Birthday

Amelie’s birthday coincided with National Donut Day this year and so I suggested we have donuts for breakfast. She loved this idea much better than going out to dinner. She chose a donut with pink icing and sprinkles and they gave her a regular donut for her birthday. Amelie was so excited to get to have two! She followed that up with a sausage roll and donut holes. Needless to say, she was a happy girl by the time we left.

This tent from Aunt Tahni is AWESOME! It has a sparkly light inside that rotates around and it looks so cool in the dark. Amelie has slept in it every night since her birthday!

Week 4 in “The Cast”

The exciting thing about week 4 with Dani’s cast was that we were in a better routine. She was back to sleeping in her room and SLEEPING ALL NIGHT!!! She went 4 nights in a row without crying out and I felt like a new person. We had several things planned to get us out of the house and most days Dani was content playing in her chair and watching TV.  Nadia and Amelie were also enjoying how much TV they got to watch as a result.

All in all we had a great week! Nadia and Amelie did a great job trying to help entertain Dani and play with her while she is in the chair. Amelie can make her laugh out loud which is super cute. I was glad we were nearing the half way point with many things planned for the rest of June hoping it would help us pass the time.

Thankful Thursday

  • My Grandpa Petlow in California is gravely ill and I am very thankful I could make an emergency trip out there to see him this week. It was a whirlwind of me leaving at 6 am on Monday and returning at 11pm on Tuesday.
  • I am thankful that I also saw my brother on this trip since I hadn’t seen him for over 4 years.
  • I am thankful that Dani did great while I was gone. I was very worried, but we had a lot of people praying and she did well.
  • I am thankful that none of my family was hurt this week when our garage door went haywire and broke.
  • I am thankful that the big girls are having such a great time at VBS this week.

Horse Unit Study

Nadia and I did a Horse Unit study this month and it was very interesting and we learned lots of neat facts about horses. She liked the Arabians most followed by the Clydesdale’s (which we learned were from Scotland). This was the first unit study for Dani to be exposed to and she enjoyed watching the videos while sitting in her TARDIS spica chair. We laughed a lot when we were listening to recordings of horses and Dani tried to mimic the sounds.

Horse Unit Study

Here is how the unit study was set up.

Day 1: What is a horse?

Day 2: Getting to know horses.

Day 3: Where are the horses?

Day 4: The Science of horses.

Day 5: Cool Things about horses.

We watched videos and read a book about the wild ponies of Assateague Island and it reminded me that we have a friend who lives on the neighboring island. She sent all 3 girls postcards from her daughter Emi and Nadia wanted hers on the cover of the lapbook. Amelie saw hers and said, “HEY! We saw these ponies on the computer!” We enjoyed this unit study as much as the others we have done from UnitStudy.com.
