Happy Nadia Day!

Nadia was re-adopted in the state of Texas on the 1 year anniversary of her becoming a US Citizen when we arrived in America last year. She can now get a Texas Birth Certificate which is important to all Texans! We decided to make a day of it and celebrate Nadia day! The day started with a drive over to Dallas for the hearing. We waited our turn with the other families and were called in for the quick ceremony. We dressed her in a denim skirt and her new boots in honor of the swearing in.

Once called in for our turn we were brought before the judge and our lawyer Jonathan encouraged Kim to come close with us so that she could get some photos. She cracked us up by moving all the way up next to the judge’s bench so she could get a view of us from the front. We were sworn in and then Jonathan asked me all the questions. Over and over the answer was “Yes” and near the end Nadia yelled out “YES!” We all died laughing. Jonathan said, “Whoa, she hasn’t been sworn in yet, do we need to do that?” It was so funny!

Happy Nadia Day!

Once it was over the judge gave Nadia a bear and posed for a photo with us.

We all went for breakfast at IHOP and then headed home for Nadia to have a nap. That night Grammie, Roger, Paula, Joy and Janis joined us for a party. Nadia ran around being her usual self and having a good time with the kids. I know that she is going to miss them so much when they go home this weekend. Here are a few photos from the evening.

Hitting the Stockyards

Yesterday we went to the Historic Fort Worth Stockyards with the West Virginia gang. We had lunch at Riscky’s Barbecue (that’s almost a requirement if you are going to the Stockyards). Then we did some shopping while waiting for the Fort Worth Longhorn herd to walk down the street. There were 19 or 20 longhorns this time, which is the most I remember seeing at one time. The girls all got cowboy hats and Evan got a rubber band gun and tornado in a bottle. I got a swimsuit with the Texas Flag design on it. It’s so cool!!!!

Nadia

Nadia got herself a pair of cowgirl boots, which she absolutely loves. The pair we borrowed from Alyssa (thanks guys) are too small and she needed a new pair. The red ladybug rain boots from my sister Tahni have holes in the toes from her wearing them so often, so the new boots were a great buy! Here is a little video of Nadia at Fincher’s White Front Western store. The store has been there since 1902 and they really know their stuff. They have boots from infant to adult and will also fit custom hats.

This store window just made me laugh with the McCain and Obama cut-outs.

Bubble Bash #2

Eddie, Kim, Evan, Julie, Claire and Regan arrived from West Virginia last night. We had to hit Pappasito’s ASAP for a transfusion of Mexican food for Eddie and Kim. Today we relaxed most of the day except for Kim, Julie and I doing a little shopping. (takes a lot of food to feed 9 people!) After dinner I rounded everyone up for the second Bubble Bash of the summer. We had 2 bubble machines, 2 bubble guns and 2 bubble bots.

Nadia was fascinated with the wands out of the big bottles of bubbles. We had never given those to her and she spent almost the entire time messing with those.

Thankful Thursday

Today I am thankful for my MOM’s group from church (not all of them were there today). All through the summer we have been getting together for a weekly playdate organized by Shawna (thanks!). We also meet once a month with our “mentor” mom and talk about being a mom and the stuff going on in our lives. I have really enjoyed our group and the women that I have gotten to know. And who can resist all those cute kids??

Most of us got Zoo memberships and we have tried to meet up there regularly. I am also thankful for our zoo membership. The Fort Worth Zoo is often mentioned in top 10 lists and I just love taking Nadia there. The great thing is that unlimited entry is included and parking, so you can go just as long as your child can handle it 🙂 Today Nadia liked the monkeys and the ostrich best. One chimp came right up to the window when she was looking in and she got so excited! In this photo he moved back to the tree to enjoy some orange jello. We cut out around noon when the heat was just too hot to handle.
