Mike’s mom

On Monday the 8th we got a call from the assisted living place telling us that Mike’s mom had fallen and they wanted to know what hospital to have her transported to. They thought perhaps her leg was broken, but it was hard for them to tell because she was in so much pain. We met her at the ER and later found it was her hip that had broken. She was admitted and they did surgery on her hip the following day. Since the surgery she has had an assortment of problems from low blood counts requiring transfusions to utter confusion and dementia type issues. Over the weekend things improved for her mentally, but she is still a bit confused. She is doing physical therapy each day for her hip and learning how to balance sitting up again.

She has been accepted at a skilled nursing/rehab facility near us and now we are waiting on her to improve enough to be discharged and moved over there for more full time rehab.

Our hope is that she will do well enough to return to the assisted living place again, but for now we are taking it day by day. It’s been a long 9 days for all of us, including the girls who routine has also been disrupted by all the visits to the hospital.

We appreciate all those who have offered prayers for Linda and help to us. I hope to get back to regular blogging soon.

Earlier this month I took my friend A’Jani to the TCU home football opener as a late birthday present. I first met him when he was 7 years old, and this was a celebration of his 13th birthday. I met him through the KIDS HOPE program that I run and it’s been such a blessing for our family to have connected with his family. Neither of us had ever been to a college football game and we both had a great time!  It was also TCU’s first game in their new stadium and as a member of the Big 12! The new stadium is really nice and it’s astounding that they were able to fund raise the entire $163 million dollars!

This shot was taken while we were waiting in line to go down on the field and run across it with the team. Once down on the field they gave each kid a TCU jersey and then we got ready to run. Before the team came out they had a jet flyover from the joint reserve base followed by a man in a jet pack who flew up over the side of the stadium and down into the middle of the field where he handed over a football. It was really cool! Then the team came out and we started running and it was total mania!!! I tried to take a photo, but it was blurry and I didn’t want to get run over by a bunch of little kids and their parents.

I took this shot from the other side of the field while waiting to go up the steps and get off the field. C-O-O-L!

Needless to say, our seats were awesome thanks to the Stuntz’s who let me buy a couple of their season tickets.

TCU played Grambling State and they totally crushed them 56 -0, but no one beats the Grambling band. It was incredible!! They were given nearly the entire halftime and the TCU band did a little bit at the end.

We stayed through the entire game and watched the fireworks at the end and ate plenty of junk food. Then we wandered back through the crowds to wait in line for the shuttle. It was such a fun time!

We had an exciting day this week with the first day of Museum school for this year. Nadia was going for her 3rd and final year and Amelie is going for her first time. The first day was a meet the teacher and orientation day. I looked around with Amelie and took a photo of her and Buddy the guinea pig and she was ready for me to hit the road so she could explore.

Amelie is going to be a raccoon this year and she was having so much fun at pick up time that she didn’t want to leave. The racoons will study one animal a week for the school year. I asked her about Buddy when we got home and she said, “He has germs. My teacher said.”

Nadia is going to be an owl this year and for the first day they had an opossum in the room. She said her teacher told the class it was from the skunk family and the kids all said, “Ewwwww stinky!” The owls will be learning about the various environments of the world.

It’s been a couple of months, but the Chick fil a location at our mall had a Princess Night and we took the girls out and invited Nadia’s buddy Jurnee and her mom to join us. All the children dressed as princesses got a free meal and then they invited everyone down to the center court for all the activities. They had crafts, face painting, photos with Prince Charming and more. The girls love it and we have the photos to prove it. Even Miss “I only like Star Wars and Batman” had a great time! She told me that for free Chick Fil a she would dress like a princess. She made this coupon deal hunter mom proud.
