Herman, Mo and Tiny Monkey

We haven’t posted all the details, but part of the mania that has been our life for the last 7 weeks has been Mike’s mom coming back to Texas. In a whirlwind we had to tour a bunch of places, find an acceptable one near us and hope that they had an opening. Once that was worked out we had to find and purchase everything she would need to move into the assisted living apartment we put the deposit on. So thanks to Craigslist, SuperTarget and Walmart we were able to pull it off in time to move her down here the weekend of April 3rd (photos from that trip to follow soon).

Since she was coming from another state we couldn’t get approval for Home Health to come and give her insulin shots 3 times a day until she had seen a doctor down here. We saw the doctor fairly quickly, but had to wait on the referal and so for almost two weeks I was running up there three times a day to help her with her meds and help her to get more settled in.

And of course Nadia joined me many of the times I went up there and caused quite a sensation. The people up there just love her and think that she is the cutest thing. Most of them know her by name and when we ran up there last night we walked past the room where people were playing card games and watching TV and we heard a chourus of, “NADIA, NADIA!!!!”  She of course takes that time to “work the room” by waving, saying hi and showing them the toy in one hand and the mozzerella stick in the other hand.

One of them women said, “She is like a Rock Star here. She just brightens up this place with all us old folks.”  It’s really sweet to see how happy she makes them and below is a photo of some of the gifts she has been given in the short time we have been visiting.

And Linda is really loving the place and is making new friends and going on outings with others from the assisted living place. And she tells me often how happy she is to have Nadia come visit so she can see her grow up. I think she is really going to enjoy living there and I know she loves having her “own place” again.

School Carnival Fun!

The school where I run the KIDS HOPE USA program had their carnival this weekend. The boy that I mentor moved to another school 3 weeks ago and so we invited him to join us since I hadn’t seen him for weeks. He was excited to see us, but also to see his friends. The Fort Worth Fire department came out and showed the kids the truck and let them try on their boots and hat.

Nadia saw this train and was completely single minded about going on a ride.

While they rode the train A got his hair spray painted.

I convinced him to give up his “coolness” and get in the bounce house with Nadia since she didn’t want to go alone 🙂 And of course he had fun.

Afterwards we went to McDonald’s and Nadia was just being her super cute happy self. Here she is showing us how full her belly was.

Here she is playing with Mike a game that never gets old to a toddler. “Where is Nadia?”

Here she was roaring like an animal and holding up her nugget.

Girls Inc Honor

Today Girls Inc of Tarrant County gave Mike and I the Dorothy Henson Volunteer of the Year award. We thought it was an honor to be selected and they made a point of saying that they chose us because of our work to help children around the globe. Here we are with Susan the President of Girls Inc of Tarrant County.

Here is the award. It’s a photo that Mike took that they use for their promotional materials and the girls signed the frame. I think it’s so CUTE!

And here are some of the girls talking about the business that they formed for a contest. They won the contest and spent 6 days in NYC meeting with female executives from Goldman Sacs and other organizations to talk about business. I am going to do a future post soon with a link to their website because it’s really awesome.

1 Peter 3: 18

“For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit.”

This day isn’t about bunnies and eggs, but the most wonderful thing ever done for mankind.  We wish you all a blessed Resurrection Day and we pray that you would have peace through the grace of Christ.
