Today I am thankful for modern medicine and good doctors.
Traveling home from the beach
We had such a wonderful trip at the beach with our friends the Hameloth family. I was ready to move to the Outer Banks by the end of the trip 🙂 We headed home early in the morning and when we were nearly off the island I saw a sign on the side of the 2 lane highway that said, “Unlawful to feed bears on the side of highway”, and my first thought was “Who does that?” Then about a mile down the road I saw a sign that said, “Watch for wild turkeys in road” and I decided that someone forgot to tell the turkeys about the bears.

First off, the Blue Ridge Parkway is a seriously stressful place to drive. Beautiful country, but I was glad when we were done with all those winding roads.

On day two of our drive home I40 was halted to a standstill because of road construction. Everyone was forced to take a detour that took over an hour, but we did pass this interesting house.

One tree decorated with shoes and the other with bottles.

We couldn’t resist a photo op with this guy at one of the truck stops. What a great trip, but we were glad to be home.
The Horses of the Outer Banks

There are wild horses on some of the beaches in the Outer Banks. We didn’t go on a tour to see them up close, instead I wanted to stop at the statues around where we stayed. Here are some cute shots of the girls goofing off around the ones we decided to stop and look at.

Day 6 – The Outer Banks

Here are the girls before the Hameloth’s had to head home.

For our last day it was rainy and overcast so we decided to take the car and drive somewhere for lunch. We ended up at Giant Slice Pizza which was fantastic!!!! (We ended up driving back for dinner too) We had to represent for Texas.

Then we tried some Big Buck’s ice cream. WOW! They had a bunch of creative flavors and it was amazing!

I would have eaten all of these, but my family wanted their cones back. What a shame 😉

While we drove around we hopped out to take photos of random places which makes the girls think I am silly. The weather never cleared, so we didn’t make it to the beach on our final day, but it was a nice relaxing family time. After dinner we stopped to buy a few more souvenirs and got all our bags packed to prepare for the drive home early the next morning.
Oh Outer Banks….how I love you!
