I am thankful for our access to food in America. Before you let the doom and gloom of the news get you down, take a look at these photos from around the world and see what the average family lives on and compare it to your life.
I know that I am blessed. Not just that I have plenty of food, but that the words “What do I feel like eating today?” can even come out of my mouth. Most of the world (especially children) would love to have all the choices we have. Here is one little statistic for you – 80% of the world is only able to eat 2 meals a day or less. (And I know they aren’t the meals I feed my family)
The following photos were taken by one photographer who traveled all over the world to put this together. The families gathered together all the food their household eats in a week. His name is Peter Menzel. All amounts converted to US dollar equivalents.
America: $341.98 average per week.
Chad, Africa $1.23 average a week.
Shingkhey Village, Butan $5.03 average per week. (that’s for a family of 12!!!)
Bargteheide, Germany $500.07 average per week.
Tingo, Ecuador $31.55 average per week.
Sicily, Italy $260.11 average per week.
Konstancin-Jeziorna, Poland $151.27 average per week.
Cuernavaca, Mexico $189.09 average per week.
Cairo, Egypt $68.53 average per week.
