On our drive from NM to CO we enjoyed the mountains and seeing the snow. The photo above was taken through the window and was weird because the whole landscape looked black and white as we drove past. We got to the Peterman’s around 7 pm and had wonderful leftover spaghetti while we caught up and the girls started planning all their adventures. On Tuesday morning we headed to downtown Denver to meet up with Randy for lunch at Union Station. A beautiful remodel was recently completed and I loved the 20’s feel of the place.
These girls didn’t want to cooperate so I just laughed and let them act like fools. We had lunch at a place called Acme Burger. The burgers were wonderful and their fries are amazing because of the delicious seasonings! We all loved it. Then we had ice cream cones from Milkbox Ice Creamery. OH MY GOODNESS! I actually teared up a little when I took a bite of the salted peanut butter ice cream Mike got to share with me. Whoa! YUM! Go there!
Both of our families studied Whales in the fall this year so we planned to see the special Whale Exhibit at the Denver Nature and Science Museum. And on a side note, they rent strollers there for $1. That is amazing and all museums should do this because it’s an easy money maker because nearly everyone would pay it. Another great perk was that they are a reciprocal museum to our home membership so we got in for free. WOO HOO!! We enjoyed the exhibit, but they didn’t allow any cameras inside so the photo above is the only one I have of that part of the day. I was really impressed at how much information we learned in our unit study was on display to see and touch. They had two amazing full size skeletons hanging from the ceiling of a male and female sperm whale. They could crawl through a life-size replica of the heart of the humongous blue whale – the girls LOVED this.
We didn’t have a chance to the rest of the museum, but we did see the Mummy exhibit which Nadia was so excited about. There was a woman volunteer in there who explained in great detail about how the wealthy were mummified. The girls and I had been to a documentary on this earlier in the fall so this was a cool reminder of the things we had learned. We had such a fun day out with such good friends!
