Waaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the first week of December 2014 we ordered a special doll for Amelie from “A Doll Like Me” which is run by the coolest lady ever named Amy. She thinks that all kids should have a doll like them, especially those with limb differences. She figured out a way to sew the hands to look exactly like like child she was making the doll for. But she is just one woman who is a mom herself, so you have to order early – which worked for us because we knew we could wait for Amelie’s birthday. So we took close up photos of her hands and face and told the woman all of Amelie’s favorite things (like the color pink and elephants).
This is the amazing doll that showed up. She has a pink shirt with pink elephants. She has hair, skin, eyes and smile like Amelie. And most of all she has hands just like Amelie’s. It took her a while to notice, but then when she really understood she was so happy. She named her Ami which is our nickname for her. Amelie has never before played with dolls like she does with her Ami. Ami goes lots of places with us and sleeps with Amelie every night. We have to tell the doll goodnight too. At least 30 times in the last 2 months Amelie has thanked me for getting her a doll “just like me.” It really is the most amazing gift!
Close up of the hands. Too cute!
Nadia gave Amelie her Strawberry Shortcake bakery which she had paid for with her own money two years before. She knew that Amelie loved to play with it and wanted her to have it.
Nadia also remembered that Amelie wanted a wallet so she made her one and put her own $5 gift in it. Amelie is still saving the $5. I think it’s cute that Nadia did that all on her own with no prompting from us.
