While in Houston last weekend we had a wonderful meal at Pearl Dynasty Cuisine. The restaurant is owned by one of the families we traveled to China with. Their daughter Angelina is from the same orphanage that Nadia was from. We did see them at the reunion in July, but Lisa’s parents couldn’t make it and they made the trip to China, so we missed seeing them. She told her parents that we were coming and they were both at the restaurant and it was so wonderful to see them. My cousin Jen lives near there, so she met us for dinner. My sister Tahni had come to town to see our dad after the surgery and so we brought her along too. Here is Nadia using the practice chop sticks.
We started with spring rolls and the BEST egg rolls ever!!! I am not kidding – you have to order them if you go to their restaurant. Nadia gobbled them up at dinner (and for breakfast the next morning). Then Lisa’s mom made us special dumplings from the province she is from in China. I am not sure what they were filled with, but she made the filling and the dough and they were delicious. I thought it was such a wonderful and touching thing for her to do for us. Then we let Lisa’s family bring us their choice of food for the main course.
We had Peking Duck (i.e. Beijing Roast Duck), Orange Beef, a white sauce seafood dish and one called Dragon and Phoenix. The last one had chicken and shrimp each with their own spicy sauce. Everything was positively wonderful!!! Then we had fried ice cream for dessert. Then they packed up all the leftovers for Jen and us. YUM!! It was a wonderful evening with friends and it was great to get the girls together. Angelina wanted to play, but Nadia just wanted to hang with Mike because she was so tired. Afterwards we ran by Jen’s house for a quick tour (so cute!) and then back to my dad’s to get Nadia to bed.
I love this photo of Mike holding the girls. So cute.
