Thankful Thursday

The Babies

Anyone who has visited our house has met “The Babies”. These little guys (they are giraffes…though it’s hard to tell) are what Nadia needs at bedtime and naptime. Eddie and Kim gave the yellow one to us before we left for China and it was the toy I gave her in the Gotcha Day video shortly after we met her. She grew to love it and always wanted her “baby” at bedtime, and I therefore thought we should get another one in case it was lost. Well…you guessed it, they didn’t have anymore. Months later Target had it again in Green.

So we bought the green one and introduced it to Nadia for her to be used to seeing it, since it wasn’t exactly like the yellow one. Then, “baby” became “babies” and she had to have BOTH all the time. So we got ANOTHER green one and it’s hidden in the closet in case one of them gets lost or damaged.

So here is the Thankful part. I am thankful that our sweet girl wants to take care of her babies (and all her other stuffed animals) like we take care of her. When leaving to go Christmas shopping the other night she told me that the babies needed to take a nap on momma’s side of the bed. It’s cute that she sees them as hers to take care of. So I had to snap a photo.

Oh, and one little sidenote…she calls them “Yellow Baby” and “Green Baby” and does treat them slightly differently in a number of ways. For example, sometimes she will pretend she is taking a nap and wants you to pretend too. But of course that means you also need a baby. So, she will give you the yellow one to use, but she must always have the green one…you DON’T get to borrow that one.

George Washington Proclamation

By the President of the United States of America, a Proclamation.

Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor– and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.

Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be– That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks–for his kind care and protection of the People of this Country previous to their becoming a Nation–for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his Providence which we experienced in the course and conclusion of the late war–for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed–for the peaceable and rational manner, in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted–for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed; and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us.

and also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions– to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually–to render our national government a blessing to all the people, by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed–to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as have shewn kindness unto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord–To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the encrease of science among them and us–and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best.

Given under my hand at the City of New York the third day of October in the year of our Lord 1789.

Thankful Thursday

Today I am thankful for all the people who love Nadia! I really can’t wrap my head around all the love that has been poured out to this little girl that God so lovingly placed in our lives.

On that note, here are some photos with gifts Nadia used today for the first time. From Eddie and Kim – a WVU outfit. (yes, it finally fits)

Since Nadia is into all things Monkey right now, Joy brought this last weekend and we just colored it today. She had a blast and had to use all 20 markers 🙂

Fun November Day

Thankful Thursday

On this day when so many people are claiming doom and gloom for our country, I want to take a moment to be thankful about some great things about America. (I wonder how much fear is fed by the media and their ‘if it bleeds it leads’ mentality? Sorry, I digress.)

  • For the fact that most of America fears OBESITY rather than starvation, unlike most of the rest of the world. The majority of parents globally really do wonder how they are going to feed their children each and every day.
  • For clean water that comes out of any number of faucets in my home.
  • For immunizations that save MILLIONS of lives each year.
  • For the overwhelming generosity of the majority of Americans. Whether helping here or around the world, America does a lot of giving.
  • For our military.
  • For nice paved roads and bridges.
  • For the cars we have to drive on them.
  • For a free election system.

So I invite our readers to share with us the things that you think make America great. (and no offense to our international readers – feel free to post about your country if you want.)
