We haven’t posted all the details, but part of the mania that has been our life for the last 7 weeks has been Mike’s mom coming back to Texas. In a whirlwind we had to tour a bunch of places, find an acceptable one near us and hope that they had an opening. Once that was worked out we had to find and purchase everything she would need to move into the assisted living apartment we put the deposit on. So thanks to Craigslist, SuperTarget and Walmart we were able to pull it off in time to move her down here the weekend of April 3rd (photos from that trip to follow soon).
Since she was coming from another state we couldn’t get approval for Home Health to come and give her insulin shots 3 times a day until she had seen a doctor down here. We saw the doctor fairly quickly, but had to wait on the referal and so for almost two weeks I was running up there three times a day to help her with her meds and help her to get more settled in.
And of course Nadia joined me many of the times I went up there and caused quite a sensation. The people up there just love her and think that she is the cutest thing. Most of them know her by name and when we ran up there last night we walked past the room where people were playing card games and watching TV and we heard a chourus of, “NADIA, NADIA!!!!” She of course takes that time to “work the room” by waving, saying hi and showing them the toy in one hand and the mozzerella stick in the other hand.
One of them women said, “She is like a Rock Star here. She just brightens up this place with all us old folks.” It’s really sweet to see how happy she makes them and below is a photo of some of the gifts she has been given in the short time we have been visiting.
Introducing ‘Herman the Bear’ ‘Mo the Monkey’ and ‘Tiny Monkey’
And Linda is really loving the place and is making new friends and going on outings with others from the assisted living place. And she tells me often how happy she is to have Nadia come visit so she can see her grow up. I think she is really going to enjoy living there and I know she loves having her “own place” again.
