Thankful Thursday: 15 years!

15 years ago today Mike and I were married at 2 in the afternoon in a sweet little ceremony. We had to pay for our wedding and honeymoon and at the time I worked at a fairly low end Mexican restaurant and Mike was delivering pizza. Knowing those details so many people did so many wonderful things to make our day special.

It started with my Aunt Paula on my mom’s side asking me if I would like to wear her wedding dress since she had sons and not daughters. I was just thrilled that there wasn’t a giant bow on the back because those were very popular at the time. Then my Aunt Paula (on my dad’s side) and Uncle Roger hosted our rehearsal dinner at their house. My Aunt Denise decorated the sanctuary and most of the reception hall. My Grammie made home-made candies and punch for us to serve at the reception. Mike and I made some of the decorations and the bird seed packets. We got a grooms cake from Sam’s Club and a group of our friend from church made chocolate dipped strawberries and decorated it for us.

In all the little details God took care of us. On my last night of work before the wedding most of my call parties came in to eat and left me a normal tip and then a check or “a little something extra”. Several of them even came to one of my bridal showers or bought us gifts off our Target registry which they brought up to the restaurant. Those extra tips gave us the money we needed to pay the balance on our cake and have some spending money for our honeymoon in San Antonio. We stayed at a sweet little B&B called the Bullis House Inn that was in our price range. We had to share the bathroom with the other guests, but the owners made each morning so special for us with a little table of our own and delicious breakfast.

I  love being married to Mike and I love the life we have built together. We have been blessed by God not only with each other, but with our sweet girl Nadia.

Wedding Day

Psalm 95:6

Last week the Bible verse for the little kids to learn was Psalm 95:6 “Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the LORD our Maker!”

It was suggested that we teach it to them as a song to the tune of  ‘are you sleeping?’

Last night about an hour after we put Nadia to sleep we suddenly heard singing over the monitor.

“Come and let us,

bow down,

in worship,

in worship,

let us kneel before,

the Lord our Maker,

Amen,

Amen.”

It brought me to tears to hear her sweet little voice singing that over and over. Life is good and I am blessed beyond belief.

Vacation Bible School this year was Space Themed and what an awesome job the entire church did to give the kids from our church and surrounding neighborhood a great week. Nadia was able to be in a regular class this year instead of being in the nursery while I volunteered. The women from our Mom’s group each took a day teaching them. I took Monday and spent the rest of the week doing the fundraising and mission moments for the children. I did everything from make runs to the store if we were out of stuff to getting all the kids photos matched up to the homemade frames they decorated.

Each day a different astronaut came in to tell the children the Bible story. One of the kids mentioned Buzz Lightyear and he said, “I know Buzz, I have met him and I am a better astronaut.” Nadia turned to me and said, “I am not having ANY of that!”

Nadia was going “beep beep beep” (The people in our church are so talented to paint all of this stuff!)

Today when I went to visit Nadia’s class the kids swarmed me to show the snap bracelets they had made. They are so sweet. So I had them pose for a photo.
